What is there to say about teak garden furniture at this time of year? I suspect that any thoughts of spending long hours relaxing or entertaining outside may be fading from your garden plans by now; but do enjoy the garden while you still can, autumn is a truly beautiful time of year to be outdoors. So what is a good topic of conversation as autumn and winter approach? I wondered: what teak item will be of interest, or even of use? And then the answer sailed up to me; Boat Shaped Storage Boxes!

Now, you can have your storage boat indoors or outdoors. In the shape of Indonesian Jukungs and canoes, our boats are a beautiful addition to any living space; but as the colder and wetter months approach, here are a few things you might like to know about our not-so-humble Boat Shaped Storage Boxes; and about teak in general.

  • Firstly, and very importantly, teak floats; so our boat is really off to a good start. Because of this and other characteristics, teak is a long standing, widely used boat-building material with a very proud tradition in the Royal Navy.
  • Teak is mainly found in Southeast Asia (for us it’s Indonesia) and India, so it is likely that your storage boat has already sailed at least some of the seven seas.
  • Teak is incredibly durable and will not rot; and that’s another fine characteristic of your teak boat. Largely due to its natural oil content, teak is not susceptible to damage caused by prolonged exposure to the elements, or from prolonged contact with water. It is also resistant to mould, bacteria and insects. It will last a lifetime. Speaking of boats, the decks of the Titanic were teak, and are apparently as good today as on that fateful night in 1912.
  • Your boat is sustainable. We at Chairs and Tables source our Grade A teak from ecologically managed and sustainable plantations in Indonesia, owned by Perum Perhutani, an Indonesian Government agency. Indonesia is currently the only country producing teak garden furniture from plantation teak, a fact that is of great importance to us.
  • Teak ages beautifully. Needless to say, a Boat Shaped Storage Box from Chairs and Tables is a beautiful, high-quality product that will give many years of pleasure, and conversation.

All in all, teak garden furniture is exceptionally durable and long lasting and will only improve with age. If your boat is a garden feature, there is no need to bring it inside for the winter and there is no need to cover it up. And while your boat is a fine addition to your home or garden; please remember that if things get Biblical this winter, it will probably be of little use.
